The Wildways Training Centre provides courses for beginners right through to experienced climbers and hikers.

Our courses meet the requirements of The South African Mountaineering Development & Training Trust's Mountain leader training awards, & the National Qualifications registered with South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) for professional Guides. Many of our courses also meet the UIAA model standards for leaders.

These courses are designed to give training in & assessment of the technical & group management skills required by those persons who wish to lead groups or individuals on rock climbs and mountain walking trips in Southern Africa, OR, those who simply wish to learn more for their own safety and enjoyment of our outdoor environment.

Rock Climbing

This is one of those activities that everyone just has to try at some time in their lives. However many climbers enter the sport of Rock Climbing without sound grounding in the skills necessary and this often leads to accidents that should not have happened. Training can go a long way to improving the safety of the sport and the publics image of climbers.

Our formal courses supply training for: Abseil Guides; Single Pitch Rock Climbing Guides; Rock Climbing Guides; Kloofing Guides; Mountaineering Guides

Our other climbing courses comprise:

Introductory Rock Climbing -
This level provides a safety oriented introduction to the sport of rock climbing for beginners or sport climbers.

Rock Climbing Seconder -
This is a full feature training course, giving the participant thorough training in the basics of rock climbing as well as bring them to a suitable competency to be able to safely belay and follow a lead climber.

Abseil Access -
This course will train emergency personnel to efficiently and safely access & egress from steep terrain.

Hiking

Mountain Walking (Trekking / Hiking) carries numerous potential hazards and risks, therefore it is important that Hikers have a sound knowledge of the activity learnt through experience and formal training. Our courses comprise:

General Mountain Safety -
An introduction to mountain safety and travel in the outdoors. This one day course is essential knowledge for adventure racers, hikers, climbers, field guides, birders etc.

Basic Mountain Walking -
The basic level provides a safety oriented introduction to the sport of hiking. Aimed at the person who generally walks "On Trail".

Advanced Mountain Walking -
The advanced level is aimed at the person who walks "Off Trail" and in High &/or Remote areas.

Formal Hiking Guides Courses include: Basic Walking Guide; Trail Walking Guide; Advanced Walking Guide; Kloofing Guide; Mountain Guide

We regularly customise our courses for you, if you have a specific need, discuss this with us and we will assist wherever we can. As a Registered Training Organisation, we are bound to give you the opportunity to have your current skills recognised as credit towa
