An accomplished rock climber, he came late to fell-running, but became Welsh champion in the veterans class and held the record for the traverse of the Cullin Ridge on Skye. For the last few years he has travelled through mountains in a more leisurely manner, working as a consultant in outdoor education and instructing Mountain Leader training and assessment courses.
