I got interested in climbing when a buddy brought me to a couple sport routes at Smith Rock in Oregon. It was awesome, but it was packed with people. I was just wondering if any of you know of any secret spots, or lesser known here in Oregon or even in Washington since I'm right on the Columbia. Any input or info would be great, can't wait to get back out and climb this summer!

not being from oregon, i can't really help you out there. i can tell you that good guidebooks/topos will be your best resource. if your friend is experienced enough, he/she should be able to tell you some good guidebooks or maybe even personally refer you to those areas that are less populated. although, i assume if that were the case, you wouldn't be asking here. maybe someone from the area can help you out a little more, but until then, try the follwing link:
it's from another climbing site and the route lists are pretty extensive, so you should be able to find what you're looking for. as a general rule of thumb, the longer the hike in to the crag, the fewer lazy day climbers you'll find cluttering things up (but that also means more distance to help in case of an emergency).

thanks chilli, thats a pretty handy site. my buddy is from idaho and not very familiar with oregon, so smith rock was what he came up with to climb. as far as guidebooks, i have browsed through one for western oregon but didn't find anything withing two or three hour drive. i'm beginning to think thats pretty much my options. i'm sure that the more that i get out there, the more people that i will meet to tell me of some places.

Big day. Went to the meteor crater and the Grand Canyon. I don't even have word for either one. I will post some pics sometime soon .
I saw so much rock today it was sick, got a chance to boulder around a little on the upper rim but that was it. There was always a good chance of bouncing to the bottom so I didn't really push it.
