im new to the sport and I happen to be stationed in the dc metro area. me and some shipmates ended up climbing a 30 foot wall in greatfalls national park. we are really enthusiastic and want to try out some more spots. are there any places with in 5 hour driving distance from dc. thanks a bunch -kyle

i'm not really familiar with driving in/out/around d.c. (other than knowing it's a pain in the ass) as far as distances go, but there is GREAT climbing to be had in virginia and west virginia (the new river gorge - for example - is a spectacular destination. i'm actually going to be headed there a bit later in may). i'd suggest the links below for areas that you could look into as far as drive time. being willing to drive 5hrs (not accounting for traffic time) will greatly open up your options.

I believe the New River Gorge is in range. There is all kinds of boss climbing there.
