Ok, the car is almost completely packed and I'll be heading to bed soon. My wife and I will be on the road between 6:30 and 7:00 tomorrow morning on a 6 day rock climbing trip. I don't know how much internet access I'll have so I may not be online again until next week to provide updates but I'll definitely give a review when I get back.

I hate you stinking guts (I mean that in nice way). There is access at Miguels, stay posted.
EDIT: I have some friends that live close by, if you need some partners let me know and I will give them a call.

We're back safe and sound and had a great time; I'll compose a better post later with more details but it was an awesome trip.

P.S. I'll be uploading a few photos and maybe a video or two but since it was just me and my wife we weren't able to shoot as much as we liked.

It's been a crazy day but let's see if I can get something coherent out there for you guys.
We arrived at Miguel's Pizza at 11:30 AM (a 4.5 hour drive), paid for our camping, picked a spot, and had our camp set up by 2:30 PM. After a couple of quick inquiries we went out to Muir Valley and hiked in to a place called "Practice Wall" which was recommended as a good spot to get your feet wet in "The Red". We started with a 5.6 called Dragon's Mouth, then worked out way around hitting various routes up to 5.9+ before hiking out.
Tuesday night we ate at Miguel's and the hype is true, that man makes an incredible pizza!
Wednesday after getting up and eating breakfast we reviewed the guidebook and headed to Roadside Crag. We hiked in to a 60' 5.7 named C Sharp or B Flat and worked our way around again staying in the 5.8+ to 5.9+ range nailing some nice 70'-80' routes.
Wednesday night chatting at Miguel's some fellow climbers recommended some different routes at Muir Valley so Thursday we went back there to "The Great Wall". We started with a nice 70' 5.6 before moving up in grades and finally bagging our first 5.10a, a nice 70' 7 bolt route.
Thursday night we had thunderstorms move in, but our tent held firm and kept us dry. We weren't too concerned because Friday was going to be a rest day anyway. However, fate conspired against us and it stormed hard again most of the day Friday and into Friday night so we didn't get to climb Saturday either. We just relaxed and caught a movie instead and then broke camp and came home on Sunday.
This was by far the best climbing area we have visited and we didn't even scratch the surface of what's there. There are plenty of routes in the areas we visited we didn't even get to climb yet plus 7 different areas we didn't even visit at all so far.
We have already planned a follow up trip in October, probably the 2nd week, to climb again.
Although this is definitely too far to make a day trip, we agree we like it well enough to make it a short weekend trip. We can drive up Friday night after work, climb all day Saturday, and then drive back on Sunday.
If you've never been to The Red then make plans to get there when you can, it is well worth it.

I sounds like you guys had a great time, I hope it was all you thought it would be. I am home for a week so I am going to head to Fortress Wall on Wednesday for some more trad hours. I wish you were in the area still.

Heath,
It was everything we anticipated and so much more; I can't say enough good things about it.
I'll definitely keep you in the loop if we get to make a short trip between now and October and see if you're in town.
If we don't get up before then, hopefully you'll be around in October when we make it up your way.

Glad to help Chilli and when you do decide to go let us know and maybe we can meet you up there.
We have it on our calander right now to definitely go back October 8th-12th (Wed-Sun) which we just found out is the weekend of Rocktoberfest.
This is a huge rock climbing weekend that the Red River Gorge Climbers Coalation (RRGCC) sponsors every year to raise money to keep this area open to climbing and last year attracted over 1000 climbers.
It might be fun if we could get as many people from the forum as possible to all attend.

that would actually be pretty cool. i'll have to see how nasty my schedule is around that time. with this vet-school stuff i have a feeling i'll only be coming up for air occasionally and at the whim of the profs (par for the course with that stuff). i'll see what alice and i can work out though. it'd be pretty sweet. however, i know that the new river rendevous gets wicked crowded, and i have a feeling that this would be pretty packed too. generally i avoid the large gatherings, but i should really get to one before i keep knocking the idea. anyway, wew'll see if it's possible, and i'll certainly try.

I know what you mean; This will be our first really large climbing event to attend as well; Beyond this it has been the regional ABS comp that is held in Nashville at our gym and that is only about 200-300 people usually.
