I've been climbing for about a year and a half now and have just signed up at an indoor gym that has a dedicated crack wall. So naturally I want to give it a try!
Any opinions on crack gloves? Or gloves vs. plain old tape? I've been doing a little Googling and it seems like there aren't a lot of options out there for gloves. And I'm a bit confused too. Are "Hand Jammies" a specific brand, or is that the general term for crack climbing gloves?
if you enjoy crack climber, you can invest on those crack climbing gloves.. hand jammies is a popular brand of choice.. will let you know if there are other good crack climbing gloves..
if it's in the gym, your hands shouldn't get too badly beaten up without the gloves (we have rough cement and mine only get a little scraped). if you're using the gloves to be able to jam better, then it would be best if you trained your placement and jamming skills instead of buying gloves.
if you're headed outdoors or you really want to protect your hands in the gym i would suggest making tape gloves instead of buying jammies. if done properly your tape gloves will both fit/perform better AND will be reusable a few times over. i've heard too many complaints that the jammies just don't perform quite as well as intended (but maybe the people i talk to are just too dumb to use them properly).
