I do alot of hiking with a pack and theres usually not alot of room left, so my first aid kit is small but usefull to save room but to supply anything up to first aid level 2. I try to have a supply with a variety and I know I can't take everything I would like to have. I start with the allways needed BandAids as they are a must, and then a triple anti-biotic, and then on to the allways needed Moleskin for those blisters, then I make sure I have things like: waterproof matches, finger splints, assortments of gause, alcohol, cpr micro-shield,compression bandage for snake bites to slow the blood flow, not cut it off. Rubber gloves, mask, and clear eye wear for blood pathegens. and asprin,anti-diarrhea pills, a small but usefull kit I made up.
For this area it works fine. I'm only first aid level 2 and cpr certified, so anything after that is out of my range and I would get help for more serious injuries. I think your kit should be at what your able to take care of at that particular time.

A good starter kit. Something I would add would be some tweezers. Great for pulling thorns, splinters and such.
