Trango Cinch

i just recently purchased the Trango Cinch from Riversports in Knoxville. It is awesome. I have always used my grigri when on belay but i just wanted to try something new. The cinch works off of the same principal as the grigri, but is smaller, more lightweight, and just as easy to use as the grigri. it''s about 10 dollars cheaper too. the staff at riversports asked me to post a review of the cinch because it is such a new toy so i decided to post it on here too. the original post is on outdoorknoxville.com. now my question is; has anyone else used the cinch, and how did you like it?

I haven't used the cinch yet, but only because I haven't needed to replace my gri gri; Maybe I'll pick one up anyway just to check it out.

Normal 0 21 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 I have both Grigri and Cinch. Indeed, the cinch is slightly cheaper and slightly lighter than Grigri, but I think this is not the main advantages of the device. The cinch is indispensable for belaying the leader, and in particular when you have to give a slack, really quickly. But here lies the biggest flaw of the Cinch. If you do not use the device properly, it does not block the rope. As a consequence, your partner may even fall to the ground.
So it is important to strictly follow technical guide shown in the movie.
Unfortunately I have seen many climbers (including good ones) that do not work properly with cinch. I think it is not suitable for newbie and people without experience.
Beyond that, I personally prefer to use the Cinch. However, each piece of climbing equipment must be used properly, otherwise it can be dangerous.
