THE ART OF SOLOING IS A GAME TO BE PLAYED ONLY BY THE MOST EXPERIENCED IN ALL AREA'S OF CLIMBING TO BE ATTEMPTED BY SOMEONE THAT IS COMITED (TOTALY) AND COMPLETLY FOCUSED MOST OF THE SOLO'S I'VE DONE WERE WHAT I CALL NON-RETURNABLES, OR NO-BACKING OFF ONCE YOU'VE STARTED IT TAKES ALOT OF PRACTICE, BOTH PHYSICAL AND MENTAL TO FREE-SOLO A ROUTE!! MY ADVISE IS TO PRACTICE BOULDERING, KEEPING IN MIND TO WORK ON A STRONG MENTAL FOCUS

That's great, that's kinda like being a spiritual babe? Well, I will help you as much as I can If you want? First @ what level are you soloing @!! First of all don't think of your send as a send @ all, think of It as a spirituall journey, because the art of soloing is simply that or you should'nt , or you're doing it for the wrong reason. Are you a spiritual soul? First, prayer is the only way to start, and mean it, for GOD KNOW'S WHAT YOU THINK AND FEEL, but you still have to ask him?I HOPE THIS IS PLEASING TO YOU, because the last thing I want to do is scare you off That's my spirituall journey and what peace it is, that's the best peace you can have before and during the send!! Of coarse there's alot to get rid of and alot to come to terms with, so don't take this lightly, because it is an art!! And it takes alot of committment to achieve spiritual enlightenment. So don't be scared off because I feel like I can help. I'm not a creep or anything,I am a climbing guide and a Area Contact for CLIMBERS FOR CHRIST, for the eastern area ( Ala. & Tenn. ) Look me up @ www.srcfc.org in the Area Contact section. We are having a Bouldering Competition the 8th 9th of Feb. 2008 @ HP-40. So hope to meet you there, God Bless.

On the topic of free solo: My last comment I failed to mention to never solo without a rope and at least a small rack in case you run into trouble!!!! Sorry about that

to tell you the truth, i dont really how what the diff is bet religious and spiritual. all i can say is that i'm a devout catholic. my parents have taught me well on the word of God, etc. yeah, i start with a prayer when i climb, as i do for everything, like driving and all that. i appreciate you wanting to help. i feel i can learn a lot from you:)

hey there bradkillough. when i read your first post i felt like you were screaming madly because of the all caps and the red font color. anyway, you sound so passionate about your spirituality. it's interesting to know that there are people like you who see climbing not just as a sport but as a spiritual journey as well

I know I'm still working on my penmanship, haha! Thanks, I think alot of people climb for the wrong reasons. Or don't climb as (complete) as I think everyone should,MIND,BODY & SOUL. I mean, how can you really experience the complete package without all three.

If you have rope and a small rack it's really not a "free-solo" is it?

Yes it is! Would you free-solo w/out a back-up? The rope and small rack are a responsibility, just in case. Have you ever been surprised by a snake ( I have 40 ft up ), by a packsaddle ( catapillar w/stingers ) I have. In other words, there are things that can surprise you and break your concentration and I have lost my focus and needed gear, and I had it with me. Does that make sense to you Mike?

It make sense to me to have rope and other safety gear, yes. But by definition free-solo is without any equipment other than shoes. If I were to free solo it would be on a climb that was well below my ability and/or I had climbed it many times before with gear and I was completely confident of being about to complete the climb with out a fall. To date I have never free soloed a climb.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_solo_climbing

Free solo climbing, also known as free soloing, is a form of free climbing where the climber (the free soloist) foregoes ropes, harnesses and other protective gear while ascending and relies only on his or her physical strength, climbing ability, and psychological fortitude to avoid a fatal fall.

that's true mike. i totally agree with your point. in the purest sense of the form, gear-free the only way to go. HOWEVER, i have seen (a few years ago) a soloist go up a route with a rope in a backpack coil and a couple of pieces. i didn't bother to ask why, because the crazy guy was halfway up a 5.10 before it even occurred to me that he wasn't there to rope-solo. i didn't know why he carried it, and i didn't know what his plans were, until i saw him rap back down and walk away like he just walked to the corner market and was on his way home (i suddenly felt a little silly being on TR on a 5.9 - it was a humbling moment). i'd definitely agree with you on th point that it just doesn't feel like a free solo if someone is carrying gear with them. on the other hand, i wasn't about to tell this guy who glided up a route that it wasn't a TRUE free-solo just because he had that extra weight on his back.

No need for you to feel silly nor humbled. Besides you don't want your GF to beat you do you, or was that RockRat2008 that said that?

i don't know who said anything about "beating." if you mean beating in the competative sense, then i've got nothing to worry about. we both already know she's a better climber than i am; and i brought her into it! i'm so proud
