preferrably outdoor. but depends on the weather too. if weather conditions dont allow me to go out, and im itching for a climb, i settle for indoor.

Outdoor 100%. I haven't done that much indoor climbing. I remember the gym was hot and the air was really stale. Then again I wasn't really into climbing as much as monkeying around on the rock. Also, when you are outside, there is nothing better than getting to the crux and having a cool breeze blow by.

I haven't climbed outside yet. I just started climbing so I feel like I should build up a little more hand strength. But I definitely want to get outside it looks fun.

in my opinion, indoor (while fun) is just conditioning and practice for outdoor. nothing beats setting up a belay station a few hundred feet up and then pausing to look at the view - that's pure peace.

you got that right, chilli. nothing like the scorching heat and sand on your skin...

I love the smell of napalm in the morning, that gasoline smell . . .

I agree with chilly. Indoor for training and outdoor for fun. However with two young children, I tend toward the indoors just for pure safety at the moment. Both my kids prefer the outdoors, and get really iratated with me when I'm pressing safety, but when its your kids, its hard not to be an overbearing and overprotective parent.

I really like indoor. I have a huge variety in a couple of thousand square feet. Also I don't have to deal with lack of daylight or weather inside. A bathroom is nearby so I don't have to duck behind a tree or something. That's not to say I don't like going outdoor as well. I do, It's just difficult to schedule all too often. BUT! When you do get outside it's, as Chilli says, "pure peace" and worth it.

I haven't ever climbed indoors but I can't imagine it being more enjoyable than outdoors.

Yeah, I use the gym for my training and I enjoy it, a lot. I love to be able to push myself in a known safe environment. I like the fact that I can get off work and be there climbing in 30 minutes.
However, when the weather is nice and it is the weekend I love my outdoor climbing!
If I had my choice of going indoor or outdoors then outdoors definitely wins but I love them both.

I have noticed from climbing outside that going back to indoor it's more of how fast and easy it's become. Outdoor has become more exciting and difficult and once i went back to the gym it was just easy fun!
So yeah I don't know if its with everyone but just climbing outdoors give you so much more confidence and experience that you are a pro on the indoor circuit.

Outside is where I want to be! Climbing real lines on real rock. Indoor climbing at a quality gym is very beneficial for learning technique and safety. Climbing in the gym is fun, but does not compare to natural rock and all it has to offer. Plus, multi pitch climbs are only outside!

Yea, the outdoors would be my first choice, but a gym is more localized and you can focus more on training.
