it's the only way you can get me in the gym, gotta have some sort of workout for my asthma but now that i think of it, asthma or not, i will still climb for the sheer pleasure of it
Some of us are born human; others take a lifetime to become one.
The world is beautiful...quiet. There are no telephones, no computers, you can leave all the noise behind because all you can concentrate on is what's in front of you. It challenges your mind and body and you feel so wonderful afterwords, sore and accomplished.
I am a former smoker having quit after 15 years. For me its not only an exhilerating workout, but it has become excellent family time. Teaching the Children has been a wonderful experiance, teaching them to trust not only me but each other as well. I climb for the spirtuality and the bonds of trust and friendship that it fosters.

for the workout, the flexibility, the stress relief after work, etc. etc.
mostly though, i love that i'm so new at it, that every time i go to the gym, i am able to make one move more than i was before, to see the progress i am making not only in the strength i am gaining to lock on to new holds, but the technique i'm gaining to make new moves and complete progressively harder routes.
i can't wait till i am able to get on an actual face, though. i've only climbed gyms so far, so i unfortunately can't really talk about the peace of the earth, the rush of looking down over what you've just climbed and feel so accomplished and part of the world.
Oh, what am I to think of what the writing of a thousand lifetimes could not explain if all the forest trees were pens and all the oceans - ink?

the sheer challenge of it!! Like most things, im good but not that good. climbing is one of those things i aint that good at but love doing anyway. even love the climbs i try but dont finish!! all the more reason to challenge those climbs again and again until ya do it. there isnt nothing better than accomplishing what i couldnt before, and climbing is the perfect way for me to acheive!!!!
Plus the heights and the adrenaline and the fun of 'hangin out' with friends and other people!!

i love the workout. in addition that, climbing relaxes me from all my anxieties. i learn to use the "focusing" i do in climbing to my everyday-stress.
