Guys,
To summarize what I have learnt, here are 4 important rules to remember while climbing
1. Breathing
2. Remember balance - 3 points for static, 2 points fo deadpoint and 0 or 1 point for dyno
3. Use toes - tip / left / right side
4. Always try to keep arms straight, rest using your legs.

regards

thats true. well more or less, there are a few more things to remember than that. e.g. push with your legs for one.

All great points. One other thing, when your arms feel the burn, hold them up and shake them for 5 seconds ( to let the lactic-acid flow back to the heart for filtering) then hold them down and shake for 5 seconds to let the clean blood flow back into your arms.

Brad,
Shaking hands while holding it high seems 'funny' to me as I have not seen anyone in my local gym doing it. Is it new development?
Would appreciate an elaborate advise on this. Many thanks!

I would also throw in there:
Stay relaxed - The more relaxed you stay the less quickly you'll burn out
Loose hands - Same as above; make sure you're not over-gripping the rocks; just enough grip to hold on, no more.
Oh, and no, the holding your arms over your head to shake them out has been around for many, many years; As brad stated, when your muscles stress they release lactic acid and this will degrade your climbing performance; The "pump" climbers refer to on a hard route is a result of this; This helps get the lactic acid out of your muscles and helps them recover faster. Then the holding them down and shaking them helps speed the flow of oxygen rich blood back into the muscles.

Shadow,
you're not alone; When I bring new climbers to the gym for the first time and watch them start out it is the most common thing I see them doing. I've brought a half dozen new climbers to the gym with me so far this year and every one of them latched on to the rocks with a death grip the first day.
4 of them are still climbing a couple of days a week now and have made huge progress.
