looks like the dictionary is lacking a bit. i think some of the experienced climbers should add some terms. all you have to do is go to the basics and then to dictionary and add IF you KNOW the accurate definition.
question for the admins: when adding terms, how long does it take to post, and how do you know when it does?

yeah, i kind of thought it would be a good idea too. so add some defs and we'll help out everyone by better understanding the dialects that can be confusing in climbing.

Objective Hazards= Natural things and conditions that exist whether or not humans are involved: Lightning, Snowstorms, Extreme Temps, Wind, Rain, Rock Fall, in other words: Acts of God!

wow. it's been years since i heard that term. objective vs subjective hazards were things learned in my first safety course, and something that i've long since not given much thought to because it's become so automatic to prepare for objective hazards. that's a great post, brad; both for nostalgic reasons and becuase it brings up an important point that when climbing outdoors you have to be prepared for objective hazards. foremost of such preparations being careful planning of your outing and contingencies, and being well aware of weather and non-weather related conditions of the area you're going to be climbing.

Was there an answer to how long it takes for a directory submission to get added? I submitted a couple about week ago and still waiting.

i'm not sure exactly how long it takes, but it is certainly a while. the terms i submitted didn't who up for a couple of weeks. i think it just takes the mods a little while to get around to posting.

Yes, something to remember is on most internet forums the moderators are volunteers and do this around full-time jobs.
I have moderated a couple of forums in the past, am still a moderator on one, and it is a lot of work to do around a 40+ hour work week.

Thanks, I was just curious. I understand long hours as a volunteer. I've had as many as 2800+ hours in a year as a volunteer firefighter. That was in addition to working a full time (40+ hours/week) job. Fortunately some of the time at the fire station is when I'm sleeping. At least as long as someone doesn't call 911 in the middle of the night.

Thanks for all your work out there helping others. I was in the rescue squad in Rhea co. Tennessee, and we fought fires, worked wrecks, drownings, search and rescue and they were starting a cliff and cave dept. after I had moved here to Ala., So I kinda know what your going through. Thanks and God Bless you.
