Avalanche Awareness Clinic on Feb. 10-11

Climbers, skiers, riders and snowshoers are advised to take this course. The International Mountain Climbing School will be conducting avalanche awareness clinics on February 10 to 12. The Level 1 course will teach participants avalanche awareness, which is ideal for those about to set out for avalanche terrain.

In this clinic, participants will learn how to identify potential dangers and hazards as they venture into avalanche terrain. In addition, snowpack history, snow mechanics, route finding and rescue strategies will be taught. Activities include snow pits, weak layer foundation and backcountry rescue with transceivers. Most importantly, the clinic will help participants form a framework on decision-making, risk management and provide a basic understanding of avalanches.
