Summer is just around the corner and along with it, the end of classes. Instead of just having your children sit in front of the TV the whole day, you can enroll them to summer courses that will develop the
ir skills and creativity.
If you are in the areas of Washington DC and Baltimore, you can enroll your children to Earth Treks' Summer Camps. Different courses are offered to different age groups. For children ages 9-13, they offer the Summer Climbing Day Camp program.
The day camp is a 5-day camp that will give participants an overview of indoor and outdoor rock climbing. Aside from that, they will have the chance to join in teams and participate in various activities. The first day of the camp will be devoted to teambuilding events and learning belay skills and rock climbing safety. The next three days will then be spent at rock climbing sites such as Carderock and the Great Falls.
The Summer Day Camp will be offered at the following venues:

Pennsylvania College of Technology's North Campus will be offering and introductory course on backpacking and rock climbing this spring.
Introduction Backpacking and Rock Climbing 101 is a non-cr edit will be offered to novice students. In the backpacking course, everything about the subject will be covered including the equipment and the skills needed for two-to five-day trips in the outdoors. A part of the course will be conducted outside on the grounds of the North Campus. The classes will be held every Tuesday of April 9 to May 9, 6:30 to 8:30 pm.
Meanwhile, the rock climbing course will give students an introduction to the basic components and safety measures involved in the sport. The Rock Climbing 101 course, which will be taught by rock climbing specialist Ben Nevin, will be held on Mondays of April 3 to May 15, 6 to 7:30 pm.
Each course costs $49 and students are required to pre-register at least a week before the start of the classes.

Want to learn from the best? The North Face athlete, Willie Benegas will host the inaugural Snowbird Expeditions Winter Mountaineering School on March 17 to 22 at Snowbird, Utah. The program will assemble
premier mountaineers that will provide hands-on, intensive mountaineering education in the Wasatch Mountains.
The program will focus on winter mountaineering: climbing, camping, cross country travel, safety and a variety of technical skills. Moreover, the program will provide custom made instruction to each participant. The Snowboard Expedition will customize to all levels.
Cost of the program is $8,800 which covers everything except for airfare. The first three who register will receive a free North Face jacket and a 10% discount.

On March 30, Renowned pioneer rock climber Royal Robbins will be at Sierra College – Rocklin Campus to conduct the lecture "Adventures in the Sierra Nevada". The lecture is conducted as part of the course Int
erdisciplinary 6: The Sierra Nevada. The course deals with art, history, natural history and public policy of the Sierra Nevada Region. The lecture will take place in the campus Library / Learning Resource Center and is free to the public.
Robbins will give a talk on the Sierra Nevada as the outdoor enthusiast's haven and why the physical features of the mountain is vital for highly technical sports such as rock climbing and whitewater kayaking. The lecture will have a well-illustrated presentation of his experiences in the Sierra Nevada, scaling Yosemite's vertical walls up to his legendary first descent of the San Joaquin River.
Robbins' “clean climbing” techniques has produced a generation of skillful climbers. He is also one of the most influential rock climbers of the twentieth century and his achievements has been groundbreaking and inspirational in the world of rock climbing. He has penned two technique books that has sold over 400,000 copies. Moreover in 1968, he and his wife put up the Mountain Paraphernalia which eventually became the highly successful Royal Robbins outdoor clothing line. Later, he took up whitewater kayaking and generated more first descents in the rivers of California and Chile.
