World-Class Rappelling in the City of Rocks
TUESDAY, 27 JUNE 2006
In 1988, the Congress set aside the Southeastern Idaho of geologic oddities as a national reserve to recognize its significance as a historical landmark in California Trail. But today, most of more than 70,000 travelers in the City of Rocks annually come not for pioneer recollection but for world-class rappelling.
According to Brad Schilling who has been the City of Rocks' climbing ranger for the past 10 years, there is more rock to hold on to that is why even if there are more places to climb, this place is great for sport climbing in the US.
Although sport climbing is the main recreation magnet, a new campground outside the park's boundaries will be added this summer to cater more people who are interested in history than the rock climbing.
