Singapore to host Climbing World Cup next month
TUESDAY, 25 JULY 2006
Singapore is gearing up for the Climbing World Cup on August 5.
The Lion City will host the Climbing Cup and promises to stage a better and bigger competition this year. Thirty countries and 250 climbers are expected to join in the competition.
Singaporean speed climbers who are among the top ten in the world are already traibing intensively for the event. "Definitely in your home ground, with your supporters and more friends, I guess we Singaporeans will do much better, compared to when we are competing overseas where there is less supporters," says Fernandez Gary Leon, a speed climber in the Singapore team.
The high wall to be used during the competition measures 15 metres high and 24 metres wide, and a 7-metre overhang.
