Guidebook for Climbing Enthusiast
TUESDAY, 21 NOVEMBER 2006
A mountaineers book called "Weekend Rock Arizona: Trad and Sport Routes from 5.0 to 5.10a" written by Lon Abbot is now available. The book gives detailed descriptions of routes at ten climbing areas around Arizona and includes photos of the cliffs and crags with lines and ascent marked on photos.
Abbot is a veteran climber and geology professor at Prescott College. He made numerous trips to climbing spots around the state to sample routes and said that "the biggest challenge in making a guidebook is the demand to observe your sorroundings to be able to provide readers with most accurate information". Among the featured areas are the Catalina Mountains north of Tuscon and the Dragoon Mountains southeast of Benson which are both popular for Tuscon climbers.
According to Abbot the book is a resource for those climbers who enjoy getting out for a great climb on the weekend or on a holiday but don't have time to immerse themselves completely in the sport.
