Cebu Rock Climbers Will Conquer Tonsai Thailand
TUESDAY, 27 MARCH 2007
Ten young brave climbers from Cebu will travel all the way to Tonsai to climb the rock formations of Thailand. The all Cebuano group composed of Wendel Getubig Jr., Patrick Costelo, Bill Carlo Chiong, Isabel Angela Pascuado, Sunshine Menoza, Crissy Pineda, Gay Nanette Belgira and Giandi Pages will spend fifteen days in southern Thailand.
According to Giandi Pages, their group whom they call "Team 330 Haiball" chose Thailand since hundreds of developed routes are available for beginners and advanced professionals in the area. It took the entire team one year to prepare their selves for the climb and preparations include climbing three to four times a week indoors and spending weekend’s outdoor trip to Cantabaco Toledo.
Team 330 Haiball group will be lead by Wendel Getubig the leader with 10 years of rock-climbing experience that started with him climbing indoors using the traditional method of temporary anchors. When asked if rock climbing was dangerous, Giandi Pages said "yes it is dangerous, but if all the rules and basic precautions are followed, and your equipment is always counter-checked by a fellow climber, then nothing should go wrong".
