Climber Celebrates Tragic Birthday at Mount Cook

An American climber who was celebrating her 30th birthday was killed in Mount Cook National Park. She was climbing with three other members of the New Zealand Alpine Club when the accident happened.
Wellington City Council urban designer Nina Creedman who was climbing Mount Cook last Saturday died after she was struck by a falling rock while descending Mount Sealy. Creedman along with other climbers was descending about 250 meters when the rocks broke loose and fell onto their path. An Australian doctor who was one of the climbers was quick to help the victim and called for help.
Pilots came in to help rescue Creedman and was force to use night vision goggles because of high winds and the onset of dusk
in the area. Thirty year old Creedman who turned 30 last Friday took the day off to go climbing which was her passion. She was believed to have died about ten in the evening after her body was recovered by rescuers.
