Climber Died Raising Money for Charity

Thirty year old climber Chris Polden from Porhleven died while taking part in an expedition to raise money for charity. He was scaling the 1,500-metre peak in Greenland when he was struck by a massive boulder.
Chris was taking part in a challenging expedition with nine climbers who paid for their trip to help raise money for disabled children. He and his climbing partner Ben Anderson was making an ascent in the rugged mountains on the uninhabited Christian IV island in southern Greenland on June 18 when a large blouder struck his head. Ben tried to save his friend and ran across the ice field to get help from the base camp miles away.
A search and helicopter rescue team went to the remote location. Chris body was brought to a hospital but was announced dead. He suffered terrible head injuries. A former pupil of Porthleven Primary School and Helston Community College, Chris left home at 18 to study computer science at Manchester University he caught the bug for climbing.
