Climbing Pair Far From Quitting The Sport
MONDAY, 30 JULY 2007
"Never," says Katy Nelson when asked if she’s going to quit scaling rocks, cliffs, and mountains after spending three months doing it. Nelson, together with Shannon Bender climbed for three months throughout the eastern United States.
The pair went on a two-week break after completing the eastern leg of their climbing adventure, which is set for nine months. The next six months will be spent travelling and climbing throughout the western United States. They also plan to extend the climbing adventure, including going on a special trip to Mexico.
The pair finances their own climbing trips, and waitressing is one of their ways to earn. They also fund their trip by selling their trademark "Nebraska Chix Rock" T-shirts. Bender says that climbing has taken a new meaning, which is different from the one they had during the start. "Anyone who has ever thought about a trip like this should do it," Nelson said. "It’s been very serendipitous," Nelson said.
