Rock Climber in Serious Condition after Fall

SATURDAY, 28 JULY 2007

An Indiana woman who fell 20 feet while rock climbing near Elephant Rock at Devil’s Lake State Park last Thursday is in serious condition.

The unidentified woman was airlifted to University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison. According to Kristine Snow of the Baraboo District Ambulance Service, the woman was an avid climber who has been doing it for seven years.

"This particular climber ... had all the safety equipment. She had the helmet, a harness, safety equipment, climbing gear and a partner," Snow said. "Her equipment failed for whatever reason."The recent accident was the 13th fall this year, and one person has died during this period.
