Parents Blame School for Teen's Climbing Accident
THURSDAY, 30 AUGUST 2007
The parents of Mills High School sophomore Alisa Gaan are blaming the school for the rock-climbing accident that broke their daughter's back.
Gaan was climbing down the rock-climbing wall during a physical education class, when she fell. She was hospitalized for two weeks after getting a broken back. Gaan's family and lawyer claim that the school is to be blamed for the accident, since the rope used was not connected properly to the harness.
"It is a completely egregious error," Steven Choi, Gaan's attorney said. "It is a total beginner's error." The accident is being investigated by the San Mateo County Schools Insurance Group, an attorney for the district's insurance company.
