Rock Climber Survives a 50-feet Fall
WEDNESDAY, 29 AUGUST 2007
A 23-year-old unidentified rock climber from Swindon has survived a 50-feet fall from a cliff near Rhossili, on the Gower coast, last Sunday.
While rock climbing, he held on to a loose rock for support, leading him to fall off the cliff. The rock climber only sustained injuries in his lower back and left leg. He was also able to call the coastguard for help, which immediately sent an RAF rescue helicopter to transfer him Morriston Hospital in Swansea.
Retired coastguard Gordon Howe described the cliff as "treacherous." He said that he had never seen anyone climbing on that cliff in his 35 years of living beneath the cliff.
