Big Wall Line Established in South Africa
FRIDAY, 28 DECEMBER 2007
Clinton Martinengo, Charles Edelstein and Stewart Middlemiss established the most difficult big wall line in South Africa on Blouberg North's main cliff in the province of Limpopo.
The route is described as relatively blank, bulging and with a slight overhanging headwall. Over the four years of travel, Edelstein made six trips working on Dog of Thunder (30+ [5.13] with one point of A0, 13 pitches). He returned with Martinengo and they made the difficult upper sections.
The Blouberg area features up to 350m of routes with faces having positive horizontal breaks and desperate climbing blank sections in between.
