Dave Turner Completes Solo Climb in Patagonia
THURSDAY, 31 JANUARY 2008
The American Alpine Club (AAC) grant recipient Dave Turner marked one of the biggest successes in the Patagonia climbing history.
In Chilean Patagonia, Turner finished a solo first ascent on the 4,000-foot east face of Cerro Escudo in 34 days. Turner went up to the summit of the peak to make the first ascent on the east face.
Turner was a Lyman Spitzer Cutting-Edge Awardee and previously received an AAC Mountain Fellowship.
The AAC Mountain Fellowship supports climbers aged 25 and below to fulfill their climbing dreams. On the other hand, the Spitzer Cutting-Edge Award supports established climbers who attempt fulfilling climbs at groundbreaking alpine and big-wall.
