Matt Birch of Otley, West Yorkshire, England climbed Mandala once again, consolidating his Font 8b+ credentials.
He climbed the Mandala soon after Chris Sharma's first ascent in 2000. In 2002, F rench climber Tony Lamiche added a sit-start that is a Font 8b or V13, which is currently considered a Font 8b+ or V14.
Birch frequented the bouldering areas around Bishop, California. He set one of his greatest achievements on the quartz-monzonite orbs of the Buttermilk Country. This was his first ascent of The Swarm which is a confirmed 8b+ or V14 at the Secrets of the Beehive Area. He also established Somewhere in Time, a V13/14.

Kevin Mahoney and Greg Benner made the first ascent of Lake Effect last February 17. This was Mahoney's second first ascent at Lake Willoughby area in Vermont.
The line was first spotted by Maho ney who later monitored its activity until he got an opportunity of doing the first ascent. Mahoney finished the three pitches, while Benner led the last pitch.
The pitch 3 became difficult for Mahoney as it left no gear placements even after he tapped the ice. Mahoney continued climbing until at twenty feet where he found a C3 placement in a shallow crack, which gave him confidence to thrust his tools in the poor ice and finish leading the pitch.

The British Mountaineering Council’s third rock junior competition was held at Climb Rochdale last February 16.
Following the BMC Youth Climbing Series rules, the competition had three routes an d three boulder problems for both boys and girls of each age group: 8-10, 11-13, and 14-16.
In the 8-10 category, Ellissa Bryant and Luke Murphy bagged the first place, while Olivia Ratcliffe and Randy Roby emerged as winners in the 11-13 category. Lastly, Becki Hall and Robin Lloyd won in the 14-16 category.
Climbers from Bristol, Lakenheath Suffolk, and the North West participated in the said competition.
Climb Rochdale is a UK-based indoor climbing center designed for climbers of all ages and abilities.

Jody Hansen, a 29-year old climber from Colorado, was the first female to make an ascent of the roof problem, a V12, at Hueco Tanks. This also makes Hansen one of the few women in the world to boulder a conse
nsus V12.
In her two-month visit in the Texas state park, Hansen also completed the hard V11c Chablanke, which was climbed by Angie Payne in February. Hansen also climbed some V10 problems during the visit.
Two years ago, Hansen climbed three V11 routes which are the Bush Pilot, Kind Traverse, and the Sunspot, in Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado.
