Steve Backshall Injured after Climbing Accident
WEDNESDAY, 23 JULY 2008
Submitted By: Diane Vee Hormillada
Steve Backshall, a BBC wildlife presenter, sustained back and ankle injuries in a 25-ft. fall at Wye Valley in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire, England.
Backshall, 35, broke two vertebrae and dislocated an ankle when the impact of the fall forced his heel bone through the bottom of his foot. He said that his condition could have been worse. A safety climbing device probably failed to support Backshall's weight.
The former Really Wild Show host is now recovering and hopes that he will be able to get out of the hospital next week.
