Friday, 22 August 2008BOULDER, Colorado - USA Climbing announced the appointment of Keith Ferguson to the position of Executive Director effective September 2nd. Ferguson joins USA Climbing from the Professional Bull Riders, Inc. in Pueblo, Colorado, where he was responsible for sponsor fulfillment. Prior to his involvement with PBR, Ferguson spent more than 15 years with the United States Olympic Committee in various capacities, including the Director of Bid Administration and International Events and the Associate Director of Sport Development where he was instrumental in the planning, marketing, and development of U.S. Olympic Festivals.
At USA Climbing, Ferguson follows the tenure of Anne-Worley Moelter, who has held the Executive Director position for the past four years. Moelter remains an active part of USA Climbing, serving on both the organization's Board of Directors and its Executive Committee. "USA Climbing looks forward to working with Keith and capitalizing on his experience and insight, particularly in the area of sponsor development and international participation," said Moelter.
Ferguson will work closely with USA Climbing Director of Operations Kynan Waggoner, and will be actively involved in the development and implementation of the organization's strategic goals, including developing corporate partners and playing an active role in USA Climbing's international presence, working with the International Federation of Sport Climbing, the United States Olympic Committee, and other international sport organizations. USA Climbing President Peter Torcicollo said, "USA Climbing is eager to move forward with its strategic plans, which include not only increased membership and enhancing the profile of climbing, but also greater involvement on the international stage. Keith brings an incredible wealth of experience and knowledge to our organization, and we are confident that he will be instrumental in taking our sport to the highest level."
"Anne-Worley Moelter and the USA Climbing Board of Directors have brought the sport to the point where USA Climbing is poised for tremendous growth," said Ferguson. "I am very excited for the opportunity to work with the incredible athletes, volunteers, and staff of USA Climbing."
Ferguson brings nearly 20 years of experience in the Olympic Movement to USA Climbing including roles in international events, sport development, and developing revenue sources for sport organizations.

It is recognized by the United States Olympic Committee and the International Olympic Committee and is the U.S. member federation to the International Federation of Sport Climbing. USA Climbing hosts nearly 250 climbing competitions each year and helped bring the first IFSC Bouldering World Cup to the United States this past summer, which brought competitors from 25 countries.

Thursday, 21 August 2008Three young rock climbers from Arizona will be going to Australia this August to take part in the upcoming Olympics of youth rock climbing.
The three rock climbers are 18-year old Rachael Prokes from Phoenix, 14-year old Taylor Clarkin, and 14-year old Kelly Birch from Scottsdale. These athletes are qualified to become members of the US Youth Speed Climbing Team based on their perfor mance last July.
A fourth rock climber will compete in another international climbing event. Scottsdale's 13-year old Jordan Bridgewater will participate in a climbing competition that will take place in Montreal this coming December.

Tuesday, 19 August 2008North Conway, NH - The Great Circle Foundation of New York recently awarded a grant of $10,000 to the New Hampshire-based non-profit Kismet Rock Foundation (Kismet). This, added to news of several other major donations, makes for a remarkable total of nearly $40,000 in contributions over the past two months.
The news came in the weeks following the Board of Directors' decision to i nitiate an organizational expansion process.
"The Great Circle Foundation has displayed great vision in their decision to support Kismet," says Ted Wroblewski, President of the Kismet's Board of Directors. "During this time of growth, a new major donation has incredible impact and lends leverage for further fundraising."
Kismet Rock Foundation, which operates in New Hampshire's Mount Washington Valley, offers educational rock climbing programs to children with limited financial means from around New England. The unique program provides a multi-year extra-curricular education, focused on rock climbing, to children as they progress through their teens and into adulthood.
"Kismet Rock Foundation is offering a unique and important educational program," says Jeannine Weinberg, Director of the Great Circle Foundation. "We were very excited to find an organization that gives underprivileged children an experience that will impact their confidence and their future and that they will always remember."
The Great Circle Foundation's contribution was earmarked for direct program support, as were recent significant contributions from the Robert and Dorothy Goldberg Charitable Foundation and the Nike Factory Store Community Grant Program. Other contributors making up this summer windfall include the Evenor Armington Trust and the Nelson Charitable Foundation, both long-time supporters of Kismet, and the Chairman's Committee To Support Youth Activities. Alberto Alesina and Susan Adler and Brian and Carolyn Irwin earmarked their contributions for Kismet's capacity building and expansion process.
"On behalf of the Board of Directors, and the students whose lives continue to be enriched by our program, we thank these benevolent individuals and Foundations for their generous support," says Wroblewski.
Kismet's final summer program week, reserved for students scheduled to graduate from the program, is underway now in North Conway, NH.

Friday, 15 August 2008The third annual Bear Valley Adventure Sports Festival will take place this weekend, August 16-17.
This year's Bear Valley Adventure Sports Festival will hold three rock climbing clinics which will be presented by the festival's leading sponsor - the Mountain Adventure Seminars. Aside from rock climbing clinics, the event will also include various competitions and demonstrations of other adventure sports such as boating, mountain biking, road cycling, trail running, flat water kayaking, and disc golf.
Registration starts at six in the morning, so interested participants are advised to come early. There will be a barbecue and awarding ceremony on Aug. 16. Clinics on climbing, boating, and paddling will be held the following day.

Thursday, 14 August 2008A 17-year old rock climber named Gina Chaplin from Lower Road, Cookham Rise, Berkshire in UK has been nominated to receive the Citygate Young People of the Year award which recognizes unsung heroes. She has been participating in various national rock climbing competitions and teaching different sports such as badminton, judo, and rock climbing to her peers.
Chaplin is also vying for the top prize in Buckinghamshire for her dedication to Bourne End Junior Sports Club. The award also comes with £1,000 cash prize.
Chaplin is an A-level student at Sir William Borlase's school which is located at West Street in Marlow.
