Thursday, 29 January 2009BOULDER, COLO. — The Boulder Outdoor Specialty Group (BOSG), a collection of six landmark brands in the outdoor industry, this week announced Sue Edmiston as their new marketing manager.
Edmiston is a returning outdoor industry veteran, having built a wealth of marketing and sales experience at both Belle Baby Carriers and Mountainsmith.
"Sue's direct experience in the outdo or industry and beyond provides a boost of new ideas and energy for our brand family," said Kenny Ballard, president of the Boulder Outdoor Specialty Group. "We're excited to have her onboard in time for the Outdoor Retailer show."
Edmiston's role includes marketing support for Kelty, Kelty KIDS, Sierra Designs, Slumberjack, Wenger and Ultimate Direction. Central to Edmistion's job responsibilities will be maintaining brand individuality by emphasizing the unique essence of each brand.
Edmiston will oversee print, online, and social media marketing; advertising campaign and grass roots initiative development; creation and execution of strategic marketing partnerships; and oversight of the Boulder Group’s marketing team.

Prior to working with the Boulder Group, Edmiston was the Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Belle Baby Company. Previously, she was the Marketing Director for Mountainsmith.

Chris Hickey has been named Director of Advertising Sales for Mountain Gazette, where he will oversee sales for the magazine, website (mountaingazette.com), and event sponsorships. Hickey rejoins the Gazette having previously served as the magazine's director of sales b etween 2003 and 2004.
Hickey, with over 10 years of sales experience in the outdoor industry, brings an impressive track record of success. While at Mountain Gazette, he consistently brought in record advertising dollars each year. In his new role, Hickey will be based out of Silverthorne, CO.

Monday, 26 January 2009The New to Climbing Clubs will run each week from 6.30pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. This is a great way to meet climbing partners and climb with others at your level.
An instructor will be on hand throughout the night to offer coaching and support to those on the New to Climbing Club... and it's at no extra cost to your usual entry price!

Thursday, 22 January 2009EICA's (Edinburgh International Climbing Arena) new competition walls officially opened. These two brand new walls have been built at EICA, jointly funded by Edinburgh Leisure and Scottish Enterprise Edinburgh & Lothians and meet standards set by the International Federation of Sports Climbing, in order to host major climbing competitions.
The Speed Wall is a combination of a speed cli mbing wall which will challenge two climbers against each other (to a height of 15m, at an incline of 15 degrees) and a beginner's area which will prove tempting to climbers of any ability.
The second wall, the Difficulty Wall, is the largest articulated wall in the UK, which, when fully lowered will challenge the most elite climber, at a height of 12m, extending horizontally by 12m. When the wall is raised to full height, we will be able to set routes to suit all users.
The two new walls mean the EICA will be able to host a number of international climbing competitions in the next 5 years, including the World Youth Championship, already lined up for 2010.

Tuesday, 20 January 2009The 1st round of the annual Allcord Bouldering series kicks off on Monday, the 26th of January. The bouldering wall will be closed at 5pm on Sunday evening for route setting and will reopen at 5pm on Monday when the competition will begin.
Prizes will be awarded each round and a grand prize will be awarded to the overall series winner. Competition entry is only £1.00 plus standard ent ry cost.
