2009/2010 Irish Bouldering League with Patagonia

MONDAY, 16 NOVEMBER 2009
Submitted By: Sherwin Mapanoo

The Irish Bouldering League (IBL) is delighted to announce that its primary sponsor for the 2009/2010 series of indoor climbing competitions is the designer of outdoor apparel, Patagonia.

The IBL is delighted to be working with Patagonia. By bringing in a sponsor of this quality, the Patagonia Irish Bouldering League is ensuring its future success as the primary indoor climbing competition series in Ireland. The Irish Bouldering League has been operating without pause since 1992. A major factor in its success is the fact that it is run on a voluntary basis by climbers for climbers and is greatly assisted by the colleges and sport centre venues that we use on our regular circuit in Dublin, Cork, Kerry, Galway and Belfast. The competition is run in conjunction with Mountaineering Ireland, the national governing body for the sport.

A word from Patagonia:

Patagonia grew out of a small company that made tools for climbers. Alpinism remains at the heart of a worldwide business that still makes clothes for climbing - as well as for skiing, snowboarding, surfing, fly fishing, paddling and trail running. These are all silent sports. None requires a motor; none delivers the cheers of a crowd. In each sport, reward comes in the form of hard-won grace and moments of connection between us and nature.

Our values reflect those of a business started by a band of climbers and surfers, and the minimalist style they promoted. The approach we take towards product design demonstrates a bias for simplicity and utility. For us at Patagonia, a love of wild and beautiful places demands participation in the fight to save them, and to help reverse the steep decline in the overall environmental health of our planet. We donate our time, services and at least 1% of our sales to hundreds of grassroots environmental groups all over the world who work to help reverse the tide.

A reminder again of the current round dates:

Round 2 - Play at Height, Dingle - 21st November 2009
Round 3 - UCG, Galway - 5th December 2009
Round 4 - Middleton, Cork - 16th January 2010
Round 5 - To be confirmed
