UO Doubles Rock Climbing Wall in Student Rec Ctr

The University of Oregon has recently completed a major expansion of its rock climbing wall in the Student Recreation Center. The expansion doubles the amount of climbing space from 2,400 square feet to 5,000 square feet.

Last Friday, Feb. 12, at 3 p.m., the grand opening celebration included climbing demonstrations by UO students. The expanded facilities have increased use and interest by climbers enrolled at UO.

In 2009, there were 220 certified climbers using the rock wall. Use has more than doubled to more than 500 certified climbers in 2010 as a result of the expansion that was completed in January.

The space is used for recreation and classes and programs offering academic credit.
