Cadillac Mountain
Cadillac Mountain is famous as the highest coastal peak on the Atlantic seaboard of the United States. It lies on Mount Desert Island off the rugged Maine coast, and it lies in the center of famous Acadia National Park. An auto road leads to the open summit.
Cadillac Mountain is one of 17 mountains that were built up by tectonic and volcanic forces. It is mainly composed of pink granite and home to forests of spruce and pitch pine.
In winter, between October 7 and March 6 each year, Cadillac Mountain is the first place in the United States to receive sunlight each morning.
How to Get There
Take Maine Route 3 south one mile east of Ellsworth, and proceed to Bar Harbor. Take Route 233 west for 1.1 miles. Then find the entrance to the park. After another 1.1 miles, turn left onto the Cadillac Mtn. access road and continue to the summit.
